Tips on Preventing Gum Disease

Posted .

To keep your oral cavity from forming periodontal disease, you should brush twice a day and floss once daily. Keeping your chompers and gums healthy is our priority at Montes Periodontics & Implant Dentistry, so we’ve assembled this post on how you can steer clear of gum disease.

Periodontal disease is an oral ailment caused by uncontrolled bacteria development on pearly whites and gums. An early symptom of periodontal disease is red, bloody and/or swollen gums, but left untreated, periodontal disease can progress to a more severe form that causes tooth and bone loss. Practicing awesome dental hygiene is the best method to treat milder forms of gum disease, but grave types of gum disease require professional servicing.

To foil the onset of gum disease, there are a number of things you can do. Brushing your pearly whites two times a day and flossing your pearly whites at least one time per day top our list, and you can also consider using a mouth flush to support you as you eliminate the plaque on and between your pearly whites and gums. As always, it’s also important to come into our office at least once every six months for professional cleaning; hardened plaque (defined as tartar) will need to be removed by professional hygienists. And don’t smoke or chew tobacco if you want to avoid gum disease.
