LANAP®, or Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure, is an advanced form of laser dentistry used to treat pockets that are formed from periodontal disease. When you have periodontal disease, your gums will begin to recede, creating “pockets” along the gum line where bacteria and other harmful substances can build up.
Because the gum line is receding away from the tooth surface, plaque can also build up on the tooth’s roots. By using LANAP®, our dentist can accurately and effectively clean out these pockets and help restore your natural gum line.

- Insert the laser tip into the gum pocket, targeting and eliminating only disease-causing bacteria. The laser dissolves toxic germs and leaves the healthy gums alone.
- Removes the laser and inserts an ultrasonic cleaner. This uses soundwaves to break up plaque deposits on the top of the teeth and on the roots. Debris is flushed away with water.
- Use hand tools to remove any additional plaque buildup.
- Return the laser to the pocket, removing any remaining bacteria and diseased tissue. This also sterilizes your tissue and bone, and stimulates blood clots that create fibers to reattach your gums to your tooth.
